Description

THE ROSE OF THE UNIVERSE
- Rosetta Nebula Sh2-275
- Deepsky 250mm LRGBHOO
- Constellation Monoceros

Old data from 2022 reprocessed with current knowledge of image processing. Distorted version, LRGB combined with DuoNB, stars in RGB.

The Rosette Nebula is a diffuse emission nebula with an embedded open star cluster in the constellation Unicorn. The nebula, which is also known as the “Harp Cluster”, is around 9100 light years away from us - it can be found in the night sky a good distance to the left of the Orion Nebula in the Milky Way band. The nebula got its name from its appearance, which is reminiscent of the calyx of a rose. In the center of the object is the open star cluster NGC 2244, a collection of luminous stars of the O and B type, which are spread over an area of about 40' diameter. In my opinion, a much more appropriate name for the nebula would be “The Rose of the Universe” :-)
