Description

To the limit of my possibilities in the polluted city sky, I wanted to photograph this nebula in the constellation of Camelopardalis that I had been chasing for a couple of years. This is the reflection nebula cataloged as vdB 15, illuminated by the star HD 21389 which with its spikes is beautifully displayed in the center of this picture obtained with a HaRGB composition.

vdB 15 is a bright reflection nebula located about 2600 light years from us within our galaxy, in the direction of the constellation Camelopardalis.
It is located in the southernmost part of the constellation, close to the border with Cassiopeia and Perseus and can also be observed with the naked eye (from dark skies) thanks to its magnitude of 4.55. It is a large bank of gas illuminated by the bright star HD 21389, a variable blue supergiant Alpha Cygni, which also has the name CE Camelopardalis variable. Due to the intense radiation from the star, the nebula shines with an intense blue light.
