Description

Here is an image of M42, the Orion Nebula, processed from data that was taken last December at my usual spot. The location is about 40km west of Himeji City where I live, not far from the populated Seto Inland Sea coastline, so there is a considerable amount of light pollution there. However, that night, it was thanks to the nice atmospheric conditions that I was able to enjoy a pretty beautiful night sky. I used two telescopes to double the exposure time in one night: an Epsilon 130D equipped with ASI6200MM for Lum data and a Kowa PROMINAR 350mm F4 FL with ASI294MM for RGB data.

The image contains many other objects besides M42, because I used telescope-camera combinations with relatively wide FOVs. For example, M43, which is also known as the Running Man Nebula, can be seen above M42. At the bottom of the image, you can find NGC1999, a bluish reflection nebula that has a small dark region referred to as the Cosmic Keyhole. In order to visualize the bright central part of M42, I took a couple of frames with shorter exposure times and processed the image with HDR-related processes of PixInsight, so that you can see the Trapezium separated into four stars. I've uploaded the full resolution image. I hope you enjoy it.
