Description

The Dolphin Head Nebula, catalogued as Sharpless2-308 is a massive bubble blown by fast winds from the hot, massive, Wolf-Rayet star near it's center.  It is approx 5,000 light years away and is estimated to have a diameter of 60 light years. Wolf-Rayet stars are thought to be in a pre-supernova phase of evolution and have over 20 times the mass of the Sun. This nebula ia dominated by the glow of ionized oxygen atoms  (Ref: NASA).

This image was a collaborative effort between myself here in New Zealand and Oliver Berresford in Victoria, Australia.
Approximately half of the total integration time of 46hrs 40mins consisted of Ha and OIII narrowband data collected with the Skywatcher Esprit 120ED and the ASI2600mmPro using Optolong 7nm filters.
The other half was captured using the Skywatcher 150PDS Newtonian with the ASI2600MCPro OSC camera and the Optolong L-eXtreme Filter.
The processing of the image was again a collaborative effort using Astro-Pixel Processor, Pixinsight and Phtotoshop.
