Description

M3, also known as Messier 3, is a prominent globular cluster located in the constellation Canes Venatici. It was discovered by the French astronomer Charles Messier in 1764.
It is situated about 33'900 light-years from Earth, and it lies in the northern constellation Canes Venatici, close to the border with the constellation Boötes.
M3 contains over 500'000 stars, making it one of the richest and most densely populated globular clusters known it is estimated to be around 11.4 billion years old, making it one of the older objects in the Milky Way.
