Description

The North American (NGC7000) and the Pelican nebula(IC5070) lie 2200 and 1800 LY away, respectively, in the constellation Cygnus. The Pelican nebula has one of the best examples of Herbig-Haro objects, well seen in this image. Herbig-Haro objects are bright patches of nebulosity associated with newborn stars, formed when narrow jets of ionized gas ejected by stars collide with nearby clouds of gas and dust.
