Description

NGC6946 is situated near the star cluster NGC6939 and amid quite a lot of IFN (Integrated Flux Nebula, dust in the foreground illuminated not by a near-by star, but rather by the collective light of the stars of our galaxy).  I exposed this image deep in luminance to draw out as much of the IFN as I could.  One night I was exposing blue I captured the comet C/2021 S3 Panstarrs, which caused me some difficulties in processing since I needed to remove it.  It was captured accidentally, so I did not have red or green data to create a comet aligned stack and then composite it in to the final image.  The image is drizzled 2x and cropped only a few pixels around the edges to remove stacking artifacts, otherwise it is framed as it was shot in include as much of the background IFN as possible.  In addition to the IFN, care was also taken to pull out the small background galaxies which makes this image even more interesting to explore at full resolution.
