Description

NGC188 (Caldwell 1), often called "Polarissima Cluster" is an open cluster, a dense starfield not too far away from alp Umi, Polaris, located in the constellation Cepheus. Interesting is its age - about 6.5+ Billion years, which makes it one of the oldest formations in the region of the Milkyway. Most stars are of 13mag, some reach 12mag, in total there are about 5000 stars and the entire cluster boasts an apparent magnitude of 8.1. The cluster is circumpolar, meaning it is visible throughout the entire year ( in the Northern Hemispheres).

Due to 3/4+ moon, I had to concentrate on the stars and was not able to expose long enough for the IFN, which is quite interesting in itself there - too much light from the moon. Th target is seen not too often, it is not a really spectacular one, but interesting, I think. The final image is cropped to concentrate on the cluster (about 50% of the FOV)
