NGC7000, North America Nebula, is one of my backyard targets that is available through the summer. I wasn't lucky enough to get the strike of 5 clear nights in a row, but something is way better than nothing.

I've taken this shot with Sony A7C camera and RedCat 51 with UHC filter installed in the back of the scope. During these sessions I faced a problem with tracking and my keeper rate was slightly below 50% on 120 second subs, unfortunately. I tried to achieve quite a good polar alignment, but still, many of my subs didn't survive the selection.

I need to investigate the cause of this problem further. I tried longer exposures, and the 180 second sub doesn't look worse than 120 second one, the same pattern of smearing the stars. On the 60 second exposures the keeper rate was a bit higher, around 75%, but the amount of details I was able to get out of 120 second exposures is much higher, so I decided to stick to longer exposures.

In terms of integration, there is a difficult choice for me: either I get smoother image with less noise, but the stars are not round anymore, or I keep only the best shots, less of them unfortunately, but the overall sharpness of the nebulosity is much higher, and the stars are more round. But I paid the price of extra noise present in the image.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
