Description

NGC 6946 is an intermediate spiral galaxy, about 25 million light years away on the border between Cepheus and Cygnus. Many new stars are being formed, so it is classified as a Starburst galaxy.

I've tried to image this galaxy before and was disappointed with the result. I'm definitely not disappointed this time! Seeing was exceptional, which only happens here about once a year and the imaging run was nearly flawless. It's just a shame that time was limited due to lack of darkness. For this version I used GHS to stretch the image and bring out the faint galaxy extensions (and possibly some IFN?) I also created a luminance layer from the RGB data using Pixelmath.
