A view of two big craters on the Eastern/South-Eastern limb of the Moon: Langrenus and Petavius.
Langrenus is located on the eastern side of Mare Fecunditatis. It's quite simple to recognize it, since it is the biggest and brightest crater in the area. Its central mountain complex is a noticeable feature. Above Langrenus, three smaller craters: Bilharz, Naonobu and Atwood.
Moving to South, two more big craters: Lamé and Vendelinus, then, then the smaller Holden and Petavius B. Finally the Wrottesley crater and the bigger Petavius crater. It looks similar to Langrenus for its shape and size and for it's central mountain complex. Another feature is Rimae Petavius, a long rille (probably of volcanic origin), which departing from the center of the crater, reaches its border. Right on the eastern border of Petavius, is located Vallis Palitzsch, which originates from the Palitzsch crater and extends for about 110 Km.
Both the Crater and the Vallis are named after the German astronomer Johann Georg Palitzsch, who was the first person to locate the Halley's comet and annotate it's return (after the prediction of its modern discoverer, Edmond Halley) in 1758.
