Description

Often the Seagull nebula is photographed as a whole with a more wide-field setup. But here is a close-up of the head itself. This head is classified as Sh2-292 in the Sharpless catalogue. The image is recorded in SHO, but the OIII signal in this region is so weak that it is primarily the SII and Ha signals make up the overall image.
The colours were applied using NBColourMapper, so the image is not a pure SHO palette in the traditional sense. But the colour of especially the Ha was chosen to result in a warm and detailed (read: not overexposed) heart of the nebula. Hope you like it.
