Description

Brightening Comet C/2023 H2 Lemmon Enters a Large Galaxy field 2023-10-12
From this morning C/2023 H2 Lemmon has entered into a nice field of galaxies in the Constellation of Canes Venatici.  Comet Lemmon will be in the same galaxy riddled field of view for the next several days for imagers of widefield scopes. The comet's brightness is estimated to be slightly better than 10th magnitude and has been reportedly spotted through binoculars with averted vision (see Carl H's post in CN Carl's) .  M106 is the largest/brightest of the galaxies in the field with some other NGC's sprinkled about.

This comet bares watching as it approaches both perigee (November 10th) and perihelion (October 29th) shortly and will transition from the morning to the evening sky for the Northern Hemisphere.
