Description

Star cluster NGC 1893 and Tadpoles The nebula, whose light is partially absorbed by the dust in front of it, surrounds NGC 1893, a young open cluster of stars. The cluster formed from an interstellar cloud just 4 million years ago, its hot, bright stars providing the energy to glow in the nebula's gas. The "tadpoles" are composed of denser cold gas and dust, are about 10 light years long, and may be undergoing star formation. Their tails, shaped by wind and radiation from the cluster stars, point away from the center of the cluster, and their heads are outlined by bright streaks of ionized gas. IC 410 is located about 10 thousand light years away in the nebula-rich constellation Auriga.
