Description

Let me show you an image of the Draco Trio taken under rather special conditions ;-)
Indeed, I captured the data under the glow of the northern lights in May 2024. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get as much exposure time as I wanted due to the weather. I hesitated for a long time before processing it, thinking I would revisit it next year, but in the end, I wanted to see how it turned out. I had to battle a bit with the background sky. The Draco Trio is a striking group of three interacting galaxies located in the constellation Draco. This cosmic trio consists of NGC 5981, NGC 5982, and NGC 5985, each displaying unique features that make them a popular target for astrophotography. NGC 5981 is a slender edge-on spiral galaxy, while NGC 5982 is an elliptical galaxy with a bright core. NGC 5985, the largest of the three, is a beautiful face-on spiral galaxy with well-defined arms. The contrasting shapes and orientations of these galaxies offer a fascinating glimpse into the diversity of galaxy types in a single frame.
