Description

First time trying galaxy photography. I got into this hobby to mainly photograph galaxies, and M31 is a good target practice. Definitely had to jump through some hoops to process unfiltered subs, as my Bortle 8 skies cause a massive gradient in mere seconds. Making use of the strengths of different post-processing applications is a must, jumping between Pixinsight, SiriL and Photoshop. I suppose Pixinsight can do it all, but I'm not that competent with it yet to use it as my only post processing tool.

Anyway, I'm glad how this image turned out. As it was hot outside, it was an uphill battle against sensor noise but despite all that it turned out better than I expected. Never thought the blue colors would pop out at 30 second exposures! I might try this target through my L-eNhance to get some Ha-data, although I'm not sure how effective that will be at this focal length as the Ha-regions will appear quite small. We'll see.

Processing details:
Stacking and photometric color calibration in Siril. Cropping, background extraction, SCNR and histogram transformation in Pixinsight. Further stretching, camera raw tweaking in Photoshop.

Aperture on the Samyang was dialed back to f/3.5.
