Description

This area of sky has been one of my favorites since a child. With the naked eye, there are areas that show a hint of nebulosity. But even with a modest set of binoculars or small telescope, the details become amazingly apparent. There is just so much to see in such a small area of sky.
In just over an hour and a half of acquisition time in dark skies, albeit low on the horizon, I was able to capture this region with solid results.
The Belt and Sword region of Orion, with the Orion Nebula, Messier 42 and 43, at right. Below the left star of the Belt, Alnitak, is the famous Horsehead Nebula, while above it is NGC 2024, aka the Flame Nebula.
The field is filled with other faint pink/red emission and blue reflection nebulae.
