Description

The Eagle Nebula, also known as Messier 16 or M16. It’s the location of several famous structures, including the stunning Pillars of Creation, a star-forming region, depicted centrally the image. The Eagle Nebula contains not only the Pillars of Creation but several other star-forming regions as well. It also has many emission nebulae and some dark nebulae. The Eagle Nebula lies in the direction of the constellation Serpens the Serpent. It’s about 5,700 light-years away and spans approximately 70 x 50 light-years.Taken from my back garden between 9 and 16 June 2023 comprising 12.5 hours of exposure. Very low to the south which has some sky glow and not particularly good seeing. This is the first completed image from my new Askar FRA500.
