Description

Roughly 15,000 years ago, a massive star in eastern Cygnus blew itself to smithereens.   The ghostly, dying echoes of the star are still expanding at roughly 1 million mph today.

The Veil Nebula Complex spans roughly 3° of sky.  It is a mesmerizing sight visually even with modest apertures under dark skies, and is a phenomenal object with larger Dobsonians.  The Eastern Veil (NGC 6992) has the highest surface brightness and thus is the easiest portion to see fine details under dark skies at the eyepiece.

I shot this before in summer 2022 with a modded D5300 Nikon.  The 533MC-Pro has noticeably-better O-III sensitivity and devoting more time this go around paid great dividends.
