Description

A large cosmic shrimp in the Cassiopeia constellation at a distance of 850 light years. It is a fairly atypical planetary nebula given its asymmetrical shape. This phenomenon occurs when a star 1 to 5 times the mass of our sun exhausts the remaining helium from its core, swells into a red giant and begins to expel gas from its outer layers. The same fate awaits our sun in about 5 billion years as it is not massive enough to end in a glorious explosion.
