Description

As per the norm in galaxy season, you just wish you had more time and better seeing conditions. But this incredible face-on barred spiral galaxy strikes me as a target that deserves more integration time that I just don't have now. A striking symmetrical circle with a bright central core and a faint outer rims. It also has a decent amount of Ha regions making HaLRGB a worthwhile endeavor. Wish I had more focal length paired with better seeing to do this galaxy justice. I have cropped this image to highlight the galaxy, but if you are interested in the full field of view from the full frame sensor, you can refer to revision B.

This amazing deep sky object that presents itself to use in a face-on fashion is 20 million light years away. It is roughly half the size of our Milky Way, The birth place of new stars in this galaxy are shown in the Ha regions that decorate the spiral arms. Reportedly, so of this NGC 3344's outer stars are moving in an unusual way, possibely due to the fact that those particular stars were stolen from another galaxy during a close encounter.
