Description

Zeta Ophiuchi (ζ Ophiuchi / ζ Oph / 13 Ophiuchi) is a blue star of spectral type O9V located 458 light years from the solar system. However, due to clouds of interstellar dust, one of which is illuminated by it forming an emission nebula cataloged as S27, it has a reddish appearance, since blue light is absorbed by them. In fact, if it weren't for the clouds, Zeta Ophiuchi would be one of the brightest stars in the sky with an apparent magnitude of +2.54 and is recognized by the name Khan.
