Description

A reasonably high-resolution image of the moon just a day shy or 3rd quarter.  My goal was to get the highest-resolution image possible without resorting to mosaics, by using a full-frame astro-camera (ASI6200 Monochrome) , RGB filters, and using a 1.5x extender with my Takahashi TSA-120. (900 mm fl native, 1350 mm with extender) to maximally fill the frame.    I've boosted the saturation to try to bring out the colors a bit, without being gaudy.  Because many of the programs used for planetary and lunar imaging don't work well with large files I wrong some python code to align the images using the free DIPY diffeomorphic registration, which worked well to compensate for lateral distortions between different images due to atmospheric turbulence.   Overall seeing conditions we not the best, but workable.
