Description

The enormous sunspot group that caused all the hubbub last week before it rotated to the back side. I'm interested to see if it makes it back around intact toward end of the month.

This was shot prime focus through an Orion XT8 8" Dobsonian & Astrozap Baader white light solar filter. Back focus on the XT8 is a sad situation & involves handholding the camera with all intervening focus tubes/adapters removed. Just a 1.25" T-ring mount on the camera so it can be mashed as close as possible to the secondary mirror. At that point, there is like a millimeter of focus play, but at least that can be made to work.

No confidence yet in using 8K video to do shots like this, so it's a couple rapid bursts of stills, filling up the buffer each time to get 83 frames to stack. Then learning how to use Astrostakkert on those. Limb darkening accentuated further to help show the lighter ribbons of faculae around the edge.
