Description

IC 443, communally known as the Jellyfish Nebula, is located in the constellation Gemini approximate 5,000 light-years away. The nebula is classed as a shell type supernova remnant created by the explosion of a massive star about 30,000 years ago. The nebula is expanding and currently it is about 300 light years in diameter.

Despite the common name of the Jellyfish Nebula, I see it differently. Perhaps it is from my career bias in the neurosciences, but I see a human brain upside down in the void. The gas and dust emanating from the frontal lobes brings to mind Asimov's short story " The last question" when the last human consciousness is absorbed into the universe.
