Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a very faint tiny blue reflection nebula is located 1100 light years away in the constellation of Taurus at a declination of +16 degrees.  It will take all of your observation skills to get a glimpse of this one.  It spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a width of 0.7 light year.

This is one of the least spectacular vdB nebula, rated as a 0 on a scale from 0 to 5 in my Compendium.  The nebula surrounds the 9.2 magnitude bluish source star HD 38065.

Often I am surprised that an object is a debut, but not with this one.  This might be the worst object in any major catalogue.

Sidney van den Bergh published his vdB catalog of reflection nebulae in 1966. It was later expanded by one for a total of 159. The collection encompassed all reflection nebulosity visible on the Palomar Sky Survey north of -33 degrees latitude.  My Astrobin vdB Collection, which is about 90% complete, is here.
