Description

The data sets for this image were acquired in two evenings in late January 2023. This was my first go at using the SII filter and paired it with the L-Enhance filter which was a mistake as the bandpass at H-alpha is too wide for the L-Enhance and includes some SII. A better choice would have been the L-Extreme filter. But, aside from that mistake this data set gave me a chance to try and render an image using the SHO palette for the first time. Leaned a lot about using masks and tweaking the colors in the several attempts to produce a SHO palette. Although, I was initially unsuccessful with @Bill Blanshan SHO Normalization tool, and @Steve Miller's Colorized SHO method, I'm sue now I could go back and make those workflows produce a similar SHO image. I ended using a workflow that was shown in @Paulyman Astro YouTube GHS video.
Processing Overview:
Processed three channels separately (SII, Ha, and OIII): From the Debayer step onward, thru stacking. Also through post Calibration for crop, background extraction, EZ_DeNoise, and StarNet2.
Combined the channels via ChannelCombination: Then used the AutoColor script (to background neutralize and linear fit channels).
Then used Bill's Color masks (Yellow, Blue) and the GAME script generated mask for the flame nebula. Used these masks with the CurvesTransform to get the colors I wanted.
Used HDRMultiscaleTransform to bring out details in the nebula.
Used RangeMask and Unsharp mask to sharpen nebula details.
Added Stars back with Bill's RGBstars_to_NB script and reduced stars with Bill's method3.
