Description

Well, here is my summer project. A 4 panel mosaic of the IC1396 complex in RGB. Some HA was taken but I only used it for the background nebulosity.

This is my first real image with the Antlia LRGB Dark filters that replaced my Astronomik Deep Sky LRGB filters. I chose them because there is no cutoff between the red and green like many filters have, resulting in some lovely yellow and brown tones that I was struggling to get in the past.

The RGB data comes from B1/B2 sites in the eastern Sierra and the HA comes from my backyard in Los Angeles courtesy of the Antlia 3nm Highspeed filter.

My favorite part of the image is the orange reflection nebula around Mu Cephei, the Garnet Star. I've never really noticed how striking it was until I started processing this image.

I opted to do a starless workflow with the star images screened back in at the end. This really allowed me to make all of the three dimensional features really pop out.

Star images were taken with 12x10sec RGB exposures to keep them nice and tight.

Each of the panels has about 40x300sec for each RGB, and 110x1200sec for HA.
