Description

I had started to image this nebula entirely in narrowband because I was convinced that it was a purely H-alpha emission region but then, going to look for information, I discovered that there is also a strong reflection dominant in this area of Cepheus, for where I had to review the initial project and start working on broadband. I managed to collect almost 30 hours of shots and what came out is this HaRGB composition that satisfies me a lot for once.

Sh2-140 is a mixed emission/reflection nebula that is part of the large star-forming region of the Cepheus Molecular Nebula Complex. It is located on the southwestern edge of the dark nebula LDN 1204, in the Cepheus Bubble, at a distance of about 2900 light years from us and the star responsible for the ionization of the nebula's gases is HD 211880, a blue star on the main sequence.
Several multi-wavelength observations were conducted on this nebula, centered mainly in the bright region on the edge of Lynds 1204 and on the infrared sources located behind it. The observations across the entire infrared band were conducted mainly with the aim of identifying any young stars present in the region; following these studies, a first catalog was drawn up including all the young stellar objects of Sh2-140, consisting of three infrared sources, IRS 1, IRS 2 and IRS 3, to which two other sources discovered later were added.
