Description

I've been imaging the M101 a few times in my astrophotoraphy pursuit. Every time something would change, and with new generation of cameras and processing techniques I felt I owe it another try. The Pinwheel was discovered in 1784 by Pierre Méchain and subsequently included in Messier Catalog by number 101. It was further studied by W. Hershel and Lord Rosse. M101 was imaged by HST and heralded as the largest object imaged by it spanning over half a degree in constellation Ursa Major. Almost twice as big as Milky Way at 170000 LY across it is 20 MLY from us and by some estimates contains a Trillion Stars!
