Description

This target is always a challenge for me. One of this galaxy's nick names is "the hidden galaxy" because it hides behind quite a bit of dust. My last attempt was too bright for my taste and I blew the stars out. In this version, I tried to control the image more, but it's probably too dark. I did get a few photons through a Near IR filter which made some of the red stars really red.

It also probably brought out more cooler stars than I would have gotten with regular LRGB. The stars kind of dominate the galaxy, but I stopped for a few minutes to appreciate them and realize how amazing stars really are. As Umberto Eco said on another topic: "united in their variety and varied to their unity".

There's a neat little Ha area that appears in some images about two o'clock of the galaxy in this orientation which I was still not able to capture. I did mix in some Ha, but not enough to do the job.
