Description

A mixture of home and away  I present to you the 5th brightest Galaxy  in the sky. Just outside the local group this much studied galaxy was discover here in Australia in the Parramatta   by James Dunlop  from his back yard on the 29th April 1826.
This Elliptical / lentectular galaxy has consumed  a spiral galaxy giving it the large dark band which is characteristic  to spiral galaxies E.G. The Milky-ways Great Rift.
An astronomy associate ,  Glen Cozins gained his doctorate on James Dunlop. The first radio galaxy to be discover it is powered by a black hole the mass  of 55 million suns.In very deep images a relativistic jet can be seen
In Feb 2016 I traveled to the then Cambroon Observatory to spy the second recorded Supernova discovered by the Backyard  Observatory Supernova Search , ( BOSS) team from Australia and New Zealand.Unfortunately the weather was not conducive to confirm but was a memorable event none the less.
