Description

IC 1848, the Soul Nebula, is an emission nebula located within Cassiopeia and is neighbour to the Heart Nebula.  A few interesting regions of this nebula include the open clusters CR 34,632 and 634 which all sit within the central O3 rich regions of this image.  Regions of non-ionized dust are scattered throughout the image and help to provide contrast against the soft transitions between emission regions.

This was a fairly traditional narrowband image with SHO being mapped to R, G and B respectively.  Hydrogen-alpha was used as the luminance layer to eliminate false star colour for the image.  A blended luminance image was considered but since this target is so dominated by the hydrogen channel, it was decided that this was unlikely to improve things.
