Description

Thanks to lucky timing, on 06/01/2024 i managed to record the entire dynamics of the X-class solar flare (the most powerful) and exactly X 1.43 from AR3697 (ex famous AR3664). The effects are expected within days...
A few minutes ago i started recording a time-lapse with a telescope in H-alpha.... 1800 frames for each shot and waiting 30 seconds between each other. After a few minutes i immediately understood on the monitor that some notable event was being generated and I continued to shoot uninterruptedly, capturing 165 frames, until the event ended. I had never seen the entire evolution of an X flare. Out of nowhere monstrous explosion in a few minutes with the ADU histogram overflowing. The earth is about the size of a letter in the writing at the top in the animated GIF and what is astonishing is that areas hundreds of thousands of km away, apparently unconnected, explode in unison, each triggering a series of chain reactions, with power comparable to that of tens of millions of atomic bombs!
Start 08:37 - peak 08:48 - end filming 10:38 (UT time)
The filming was carried out from Olevano Romano (Rome), Italy with the following equipment:
Sharpstar 94EDPH
Baader Ir/uv cut filter
GRB3 heat-absorbing filter
Dystar Quark prominence - H-alpha filter
Camera ASI178MM
Lucky to have targeted it at the right time... "X" class flares occur very few times over the years...
I don't think I've seen other amateur shots like this, at least for the X flares.
I will calmly improve the quality of the video by dedicating the right amount of time to it. In the meantime, here it is in GIF...
