Description

First time that I used one of these duo narrowband filters together with my cooled OSC.

There are some reviews on the net saying that the ASI 294 is not sensitive enough in combination with these filters. I could not imagine that at all, because my 294 produces a very strong red in the H-II areas in the broadband images.

To make a long story short: I was pleasantly surprised by the strength of the signal in the H-II. Revision B shows the extract of the red channel that I further processed for H-II. Honestly, it turned out pretty damn good.

About the filter itself: On a fast system like the Epsilon (f/3.3) the quality of the stars is not usable! Here I made separate exposures with the simple UV/IR cut and then used them for the final image composition. From slower systems (about f/5) the imaging quality with the L-Extreme on the stars is usable again. Large halos also appear on bright stars, but these can be eliminated during image processing.

All in all, I am very enthusiastic about the combination of the color camera with the L-Extreme! A mono still gets much more signal on the sensor and also the image processing requires a few completely different steps in comparison to mono, but the results are very usable. The filter may stay!
